Support the Energy Omnibus
Senator Frentz’s Energy Omnibus Bill (Senate File 4504) will get voted on in the Minnesota Senate twice in the upcoming days.
The first vote, on the Senate floor on Tuesday, will be on the budget provisions of the bill, which are now in House File 2433. The second, on the bill’s policy provisions, should happen within the next week in the original bill.
To make sure they pass, we need State Senators to hear from Minnesotans who support affordable clean energy solutions.
What will these bills do?
First, they advance Thermal Energy Networks in several ways:
Establishing Thermal Energy Networks (TENs) plan requirements. This language is the result of robust stakeholder work involving utilities, developers, labor unions, and energy & consumer advocates. It will help accelerate the deployment of utility-scale TENs, while providing important consumer protections.
Funding $2m for local geothermal planning grants
Supporting three TENs systems, one at the Como Zoo, another at Macalester College, and a third at The Heights development on the East Side of Saint Paul
Beyond TENs, the bill also addresses energy affordability by:
Making a $15m investment in the Supplemental Energy Assistance Grant Program
Investing $4,465,000 in low-income home pre-weatherization
Authorizing the use of plug-in solar devices
These are solutions that will make a difference for Minnesota families.
